This show features the interview recorded after AREF’s live performance at the Open Studio session on Al Qursaya Island in Cairo. AREF is a musical duo formed by brothers Ahmed Refai and Ali Refai, whose sound blends jazz, ambient currents, and Arabic musical traditions, centering improvisation and live experimentation. Afterwards, we had the chance to speak with visual artist Hana Salaama about her artistic practice and the ways Cairo shapes and influences her emerging career.
