    Perspektive Europaviertel

    The Perspektive Europaviertel initiative is committed to a transparent and participatory planning process for the Europaviertel neighbourhood in Freiburg im Breisgau. The current planning of the urban situation at the corner of Friedrichstrasse/Bismarckallee is based on an architectural competition from 2010 and envisages the demolition of several buildings dating from the 1950s to 1970s. By organising various event formats, from dinners, festivals to exhibitions, the members of the initiative seek and curate the exchange between various actors to convey the value of what already exists: both in terms of the material resources, the buildings and the established social structures. As an acute case study, the Europaviertel is representative of complex urban transformation processes in general and the group's striving for urban planning and architecture as a more sustainable, collective and social practice.
